The Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium, Vincent Van Quickenborne, visited the Urban Crop Solutions headquarters in Waregem this morning. Another high-profile visit for the company keen to see company’s innovations in action and eager to support the company in scaling up its business.

Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Vincent Van Quickenborne, visited Urban Crop Solutions in a series of visits of high potential Belgian companies operating in a global environment. The leadership of Urban Crop Solutions discussed with the Deputy Prime Minister the track record of Urban Crop Solutions as well as the potential of the company as one of the leading global companies in the fast-emerging indoor farming industry.
The sustainability of vertical farming solutions was an important topic that was discussed. The water consumption of less than 5% compared to traditional farming, hyperlocal growing saving tons of CO2 emissions and the complimentary character of indoor farms with alternative energy sources such as anaerobic digestion, are topics that are very relevant and actual.
The plant research activities of the company were given special attention by the Vice Prime Minister. The combination between in-house fundamental research and joint-research collaborations with large corporates and universities in the Urban Crop Solutions Research Centre in Belgium is seen as a guarantee for future success.

Finally, the Deputy Prime Minister was impressed by the international client portfolio of Urban Crop Solutions. Of which include the largest retail chain in the world, as well as well reputable international seed manufacturers, biotech companies and local food distributors as part of its clientele, proving that the technology of the company is ripe for scaling up.
