Urban Crop Solutions appoints a commercial representative for the Asian market

Nosh will operate the first fully automated “crop-to-operator” container farm in Singapore as of May

Urban Crop Solutions and BAF signed a representation agreement for the East and South-East Asian markets. The collaboration fits with Urban Crop Solutions’ vision for global expansion and allows for local customer service in one of the fastest-growing countries in the Asia-Pacific region. BAF is an Agrotech company based in Singapore which has extensive experience and network in the Agri and aqua industry in Asia and beyond. The company has also built a strong network and business track record in the region and will provide as a perfect match to operate as an agent for Urban Crop Solutions in what is called the strategic gateway for Europe to the Southern parts of Asia.

A collaboration between CropKing (USA) and Urban Crop Solutions has been cultivated

 Cropking will operate a vertical container farm showcase

Cropking and Urban Crop Solutions are excited to announce the start of a flourishing collaboration. The goal will be to combine the extensive hydroponic experience of Cropking with the high-quality controlled environment technology in vertical farming of Urban Crop Solutions. By combining these different experiences and expertise, both companies get the chance to develop together in the Controlled Environment Agriculture industry in the United States. CropKing will operate the FarmPro vertical container farm as a showcase, continued research, and testing facility.

Urban Crop Solutions makes indoor farming technology for Mars biosphere

Will the first people to bake and eat bread on Mars do it due to a Belgian breakthrough? This is the challenge facing the SpaceBakery project, a unique consortium composed of seven Belgian organisations using technology provided by Urban Crop Solutions. However, before they use their research to help feed the first people on the red planet later this century, the project aims to have a clear impact on Earth today. The project will focus on how we can produce food more sustainably and will help provide a nutritional staple food for many regions across the globe. The consortium has just been awarded a subsidy of 4.5 million euros by the Flemish Community (VLAIO, Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship), contributing to a total of over 6.3 million euros in funding.

EIT Food is a Knowledge and Innovation Community established by the European Institute for Innovation & Technology (EIT), an independent EU body set up in 2008 and working in Europe to make the food system more sustainable, healthy and trusted by consumers. The mission of EIT Food is to support innovative impactful agrifood entrepreneurs, startups and scale ups to deliver new food innovations and businesses across Europe. The RisingFoodStars program selects only those companies to participate in their community that will drive the disruption of the food system and thereby help tackle the strategic objectives of the EU.

Urban Crop Solutions was awarded the Public Choice Award at the European finals of the FoodNexus Challenge on Wednesday evening December 13th.. Fifteen companies from 8 different EU countries were competing during a three day event in Wageningen (NL) for the European FoodNexus Challenge Award. The expert audience consisting of academic, corporate and venture capital people selected Urban Crop Solutions during a live closing event.

Urban Crop Solutions wins the FoodNexus Innovation Award in Belgium

Urban Crop Solutions was awarded on Thursday evening October 26th the FoodNexus Innovation Award. Out of many innovative companies a jury of experts in the agriculture and food industry  selected Urban Crop Solutions as the most promising company in the Belgian agri-food industry.  Urban Crop Solutions will defend Belgium in the European FoodNexus competition, together with another Belgian company from the French speaking part of the country, during an event in Wageningen (the Netherlands) on December 13th.

Op donderdagavond 26 oktober heeft Urban Crop Solutions uit Beveren-Leie (Waregem) de FoodNexus Innovatie Award gewonnen. Gezamenlijk project tussen Urban Crop Solutions, Albert Heijn (Ahold Delhaize) en Bakker Barendrecht

Retailbedrijven worden steeds meer geconfronteerd met klimaatsverandering, gebrek aan bewerkbare landbouwgrond en het feit dat steeds meer mensen in steden wonen. Hierdoor wordt de dagelijkse levering van gezonde verse groenten en fruit een uitdaging. Albert Heijn, een innoverende en vooruitstrevende supermarktketen en lid van de wereldwijde retail groep ‘Ahold Delhaize’, is altijd op zoek naar nieuwe teeltmethoden die beter zijn voor het milieu of voor de klant betere kwaliteit leveren. Als grootste toeleverancier van verse groenten en fruit voor Albert Heijn speelt Bakker Barendrecht hierin een significante rol. De afgelopen drie dagen heeft Urban Crop Solutions samengewerkt met Albert Heijn en Bakker Barendrecht. Governor of West-Flanders visits Urban Crops

On Monday the governor of the Belgian province West Flanders, Carl Decaluwé, visited the headquarters of the agtech company Urban Crops in Beveren-Leie (Waregem). Urban Crops combines the farming knowledge on cultivation of the region that is situated in the heart of the Western European vegetable industry with the technical knowledge of some of the global leading machine building companies of this region to develop innovative agricultural plant growth solutions for its international portfolio of customers.

De gouverneur van West-Vlaanderen Carl Decaluwé bracht gisterenmiddag een werkbezoek aan het hoofdkwartier van het landbouwtechnologiebedrijf Urban Crops in Beveren-Leie (Waregem). Urban Crops combineert de kennis van de West-Vlaamse teeltindustrie met de kennis van de internationaal gereputeerde West-Vlaamse machine-industrie om innovatieve landbouw oplossingen te ontwikkelen. Het bedrijf is hoofdzakelijk actief in regio’s waar het op heden moeilijk is om aan traditionele landbouw te doen of waar de systemen van Urban Crops complementair zijn met de traditionele landbouw.

Urban Crops opens regional headquarters in Miami (US)

The Belgian AgTech company Urban Crops starts with immediate effect its operations in the United States. The company chose to open an office in Miami as this office will be responsible for the whole North and Latin America. This opening is the next logical step in the global ambition of the company. Urban Crops is a total solution provider in the closed environment vertical farming industry and is currently expanding its business globally through own offices and a network of sales agents. Pieter De Smedt will lead the US operations for Urban Crops.

Urban Crops opent regionaal hoofdkwartier in Miami (VS)

Het Belgische landbouwtechnologiebedrijf Urban Crops start vandaag zijn activiteiten in de Verenigde Staten. Het bedrijf koos voor een kantoor in Miami als hoofdkwartier voor Noord- en Latijns-Amerika. Deze opening is de volgende logische stap in de globale ambitie van het bedrijf om de referentie te worden in de nieuwste teelttechnologie van het kweken van planten in een gecontroleerde omgeving zonder zonlicht en met behulp van led-groeilampen. Urban Crops is een aanbieder van totaaloplossingen in de verticale landbouw en is op dit moment aan een internationale uitbreiding bezig door eigen buitenlandse kantoren en een netwerk van sales agenten. Pieter De Smedt zal het hoofdkwartier in de VS leiden voor Urban Crops.

Op maandag 9 mei werden voor de eerste keer de Gault&Millau’s Culinary innovators awards uitgereikt. Hierbij viel Urban Crops uit Beveren-Leie (Waregem) in de prijzen. Urban Crops won de Product award. Dit is de award voor de meest betekenisvolle technologische vernieuwing op culinair vlak. Het event had plaats bij de Verbeke Foundation in Kemzeke. Er werden 8 prijzen uitgereikt onder meer dan 70 innovators.

Urban Crops opens largest automated urban farm in Europe

On the premises of Urban Crops in Beveren-Leie (Waregem – BELGIUM) opened the largest automated urban farm in Europe. The honors to open this installation were bestowed to Minister-President of Flanders Geert Bourgeois. This installation shall be used exclusively for research and development purposes and for tests on new crops for the global customers of Urban Crops. This indoor farm will not be used for own commercial production.

Urban Crops opent grootste geautomatiseerde indoor farm van Europa

Donderdag 25 februari werd op de site van Urban Crops in Beveren-Leie de grootste geautomatiseerde indoor farm geopend door Vlaams Minister-President Geert Bourgeois. Deze installatie zal uitsluitend gebruikt worden voor onderzoeksdoeleinden en testen van nieuwe gewassen, dit voor klanten van over heel de wereld. Deze indoor boerderij zal niet gebruikt worden voor eigen commerciële exploitatie.
